Edvotek® VNTR Human DNA Typing Using PCR Kit

VNTR (variable number of tandem repeats) regions of DNA are the regions used in DNA fingerprinting to identify individuals. Students can type themselves at the D1S80 locus on chromosome1: extract DNA (cheek); amplify D1S80 locus; separate on agarose; analyse. This region contains between 14 and 40 copies of a 16 base pair repeat.

Extraction - 30 minutes
PCR Setup - 10 minutes
PCR - 90 minutes
Electrophoresis - 30 minutes
Staining - 5 minutes

Kit includes: Instructions, PCR EdvoBeads™, LyphoPrimer™ mix, EdvoQuick™ DNA ladder, LyphoControl™, universal DNA buffer, TE buffer, Proteinase K, UltraSpec-Agarose™, TBE electrophoresis buffer powder, SYBR® Safe stain, microcentrifuge & PCR tubes, disposable plastic cups, salt packets, & a 15 mL conical tube.

All You Need: DNA electrophoresis, thermal cycler, micropipettes: 5-50 µl, UV or blue light transilluminator, (2) water baths, microcentrifuge, microwave or hot plate.
