Edvotek® Whose DNA Was Left Behind Kit?

This kit explores the principles of DNA fingerprinting for analysis of crime scene DNA. Students will carry out gel electrophoresis on preprepared, simulated digested and coloured DNA samples, and use a white light box to analyse the gel patterns to identify who was at the crime scene.
DNA obtained from a single hair left behind at a crime scene can be used to identify a criminal. In this experiment, your students will compare simulated crime scene DNA with that of two suspects.

• Learn about DNA fingerprinting while solving a crime!
• Introduce the biotechnologies of restriction enzyme digestion, PCR, and electrophoresis
• Perform agarose gel electrophoresis to separate different sized dye molecules
• Load, run, and analyse simulated crime scene and suspect samples

All You Need: DNA electrophoresis, micropipettes: 5-50 µl (optional), white light box (optional), & microwave or hot Plate.
